"Alternative Holiday Market"
Offers Local, Fair-Trade, & Humanitarian GiftsSick of the shop-until-you-drop approach to tackling your holiday gift list? Here's an alternative...
Over the Thanksgiving weekend, shoppers can enjoy treats, fair-trade coffee, & live music as they spend their holiday dollars supporting dozens of businesses & causes that make a lasting difference-locally & abroad-at the 2nd annual Alternative Holiday Market.
On November 29 & 30, from 9 am to 1:00 pm,more than 30 booths will feature holiday gift items from humanitarian organizations, locally owned businesses, & fair-trade groups. There are low-budget and high-budget items for everyone. You can purchase a $5 or $10 gift that will really do some good.
·Come to find unique, socially responsible gifts (e.g., Heart of the Sky Fair-Trade products or Women's Bean Project soup mixes).
·Come to be a patron of locally owned, independent businesses (e.g., Janke Book Store or Funky Findz).
·Come to make tribute gifts in your employees' names or an honor gift in a loved one's name via a non-profit organization (e.g., Doctors Without Borders or The Neighbor's Place).
·Come to shop at businesses that have "greener" gift ideas with items that are consumable or made via environmentally friendly practices (e.g., Mustard Seed Natural Health Store or Terradea Salon & Spa).
·Come to find lasting, meaningful, non-material gifts for hard-to-buy-for family & friends from humanitarian organizations (e.g., Smile Train or Heifer International).
Come to support businesses who promote local & organic agriculture (e.g., NewGrass Farms or Downtown Grocery).
The event is free & open to the public. This year the Market has expanded & will take place at not just one, but two locations: First Universalist Unitarian Church & First Presbyterian Church of Wausau-conveniently located across the street from one another, at 504 & 406 Grant St.
Also featured will be a Zero-Waste Wrapping Station, where donated grocery bags, ribbons, gift bags, etc., can be re-used by shoppers to wrap their purchases on-site.
